Photography Studies College - Melbourne, Victoria

PrintShop

Established in 2011, The PrintShop @ PSC has grown to become one of Melbourne’s finest specialised fine art printing businesses. Located within Photography Studies College, we provide individual consultation, collaboration and printing services. Our mission is clear: to provide the knowledge, experience, and insight for you to achieve your creative goals and create images of outstanding quality. We make it our business to keep up with the latest trends in processes and technologies, and stock extensive paper selections for archival quality fine art printmaking. Our clientele ranges from artists to commercial photographers, businesses and dedicated amateurs. Our prints have been exhibited at the National Gallery of Victorian, and numerous galleries and art institutions throughout Australia and around the world.

Printing

With our Epson 9900 we use the most up-to-date pigment printing technology, combined with beautiful fine art photographic papers, to deliver exhibition quality prints to be proud of. We are committed to providing a colour-managed service from screen to print (and we can advise you about capture, too). All our papers are acid-free and archival quality, and our printer uses an Epson UltraChrome HDR inkset, an eleven-colour pigment ink system featuring three black inks for excellent tonal gradation. We push the boundaries of what can be achieved digitally and love to work with non-traditional media.

Consultation and collaboration

The PrintShop @ PSC can help you maximise the potential of your artwork through printing consultation. We provide in-depth Photoshop and printing knowledge, including file preparation, image processing, and colour management. We will work with you every step of the way, from soft proofing, to test strips, making adjustments in Photoshop, to the final print.

Imaging

We are qualified artists who speak the artist's language for both commercial and fine art applications. We are conversant with image editing, color corrections, image optimization for offset printing, retouching, compositing, illustration, enhancement, and digital support for photographers, plus prepress proofing.

High resolution scanning

Our technology and expertise will ensure the finest photographic detail is captured and reproduced. In order to achieve high levels of detail retention, we use only the most powerful scanning technologies. All original transparencies, negatives, and reflective materials are digitised by our high-end Flextight 848 virtual drum scanner. The Flextight 848 offers high resolution (up to 8,000 dpi true optical resolution), high speed, true 16 bit colour scanning. High quality scanning requires more than expensive technology. It requires expertise in the most effective scanning techniques. The PrintShop @ PSC uses the latest, most effective scanning technique, called RAW Scanning. We have extensive experience with adjusting files for fine art reproduction, offset printing, portfolio printing, and screen use. This may entail custom color adjustments, adjusting for different papers, adjusting ink values, and optimizing images to look the best they can for their specific final use or uses.

“I can't say enough about The PrintShop @ PSC! I've worked with many labs in Melbourne, but none of them have come close to the outstanding quality The PrintShop produces consistently. Peter is a joy to work with and always goes the extra mile."
