Face to face Interactive workshop, tutorials and practical participation in PSC’s photography studios |
Perfect for intermediate level photography enthusiasts, emerging professional photographers or photographers looking to develop their studio lighting skills. Credit may be counted towards the Advanced Diploma of Photography. |
There has been a huge surge of interest in the still life photography genre since the advent of digital photography. Content production for social media and online product marketing has seen still life photography develop its own distinctive ‘flat-lay’ palette and style. At the same time, there has also been a resurgence of fascination with the particular style of composition and lighting used by the Flemish still life painters of the ‘vanitas’ genre.
Textures, colour palettes and composition are all part of creating amazing still life images, but the most crucial element of any still life photograph is the lighting. Knowing how to light in soft or moody, seductive ways to highlight the beauty and elegance of your composition is what makes your images stand out from the crowd.
In this intensive 3-day program, you will immerse yourself in the technical and emotive uses of still life lighting in one of the largest and best equipped professional photographic studios in Melbourne here at PSC. Inspired by our professional studio photography experts and using our professional continuous lighting systems and tethered shooting methods, you will explore the exquisite still-life lighting traditions made famous by the Flemish painters. You will also learn how to work with textured surfaces, glassware and a range of product settings to produce stylish and contemporary commercial photographs. Applying these styles to create your own photographic images, you will be guided at every step through practical instruction and formal reviews.
