SUPPLEMENTARY WORK REQUIRED
Summer Exhibition:
This exhibition presents photography that challenges the notion of perfection in contemporary visual art. In an era dominated by carefully curated social media feeds and flawless digital imagery, Supplementary Work Required celebrates the beauty of imperfection, unfinished work, and artistic mistakes.
The exhibition features work from both established and emerging artists who are lecturers and staff at Photography Studies College, Melbourne (PSC) and who deliberately embrace imperfections in their creative process. These may include utilising damaged or expired film, photographs with technical "flaws" such as light leaks, motion blur, or unconventional framing, unfinished or work-in-progress that reveal the artist's creative process and/or images that are mistakes and that may challenge traditional notions of composition and aesthetics.
By highlighting these works, Supplementary Work Required aims to provoke viewers to reconsider their perceptions of beauty and artistic value. The exhibition will encourage a more inclusive and experimental approach to photography, highlighting vulnerability, experimentation, and the inherent beauty of mistakes.
